This Year’s Robot

2026: REBUILT

Rebuilt, the 2026 FIRST Robotics Competition game, draws its core elements from several past FRC games, combining them into a single, modern challenge. Two alliances of three teams each compete to earn the highest score. Throughout the match, robots collect fuel—foam balls—from the floor or loading stations and shoot them into the central Hub, a large box-shaped scoring structure, during each of their three alliance shifts. In the final 30 seconds, robots may attempt to climb to any level of the Tower, a metal-bar structure that awards bonus points based on climb height. While collecting and shooting fuel, robots must contend with defense and choose their paths carefully, either driving over floor bumps or taking the lower route beneath the Trench, a raised metal bar, each option posing distinct design and strategic tradeoffs.

2025 : REBUILT

The 2025 game is themed around life beneath the surface of the ocean. This game consists of two alliances of three teams each, competing against each other to win the match. Teams are challenged to intake Coral (PVC Pipes) to place on any of the Reef’s (hexagonal structure with branches) 4 levels and shoot Algae (rubber playground ball) into the Barge (field long structure with a net). Within the last 20 seconds of the match, robots have the opportunity to race under the Barge to hang on the Cages (rectangular structures).

2025 Highlights:
  • Gracious Professionalism (Hueneme Port Regional Week 1)

2024: CRESCENDO

The 2024 game was themed around music. Teams needed to intake and shoot Notes (orange rings) into the Amp (vertical pocket) and the Speaker (tall structure with an opening) during both the autonomous and tele-operated phases in order to score points. As the last 20 seconds of the match approached, robots raced to the Stage where they attempted to hang from the chains.

2024 Highlights:
  • Imagery Award (Hueneme Port Regional Week 1)
  • Regional Finalists (San Diego Regional presented by Qualcomm Week 4)

2023: CHARGED UP

The 2023 game was themed around energy and sustainable development. Within the autonomous and the tele-operated portion of the game, robots could move towards mid-field to try and balance on the Charging Stations (balancing panels) or they could place Cubes and Cones on the Nodes (scoring structure) to score more points.

2022: RAPID REACT

The 2022 game was themed around transportation. As the match commences, the goal of each alliance is to shoot Cargo (inflatable balls) into the Central Hub which has two levels. In the end, robots have the option to hang on a series of Hangars (bars) to end the game and get ahead of the other alliance.

2020 & 2021: INFINITE RECHARGE

The 2020 & 2021 game was themed around the idea of a futuristic city. Due to COVID-19, the game was suspended from any physical competitions; the same game would be played in 2021 with some minor changes. Alliances were expected to activate the Shield Generator by shooting Power Cells (foam balls) into goals of various heights or by spinning the Control Panel (picker wheel). As the match drew to an end, teams raced to hang on the Shield Generator and completely lift off of the ground.

2019: DESTINATION: DEEP SPACE

The 2019 game was themed around the idea of outer space. Both alliances are tasked with placing Hatch Panels (disks) and Cargo (orange balls) onto Rockets (vertical goals) and Cargo Ships (loading station) before returning to their own

2018: POWERED UP

The 2018 game was themed around the idea of retro 8-Bit. To win points, robots placed Power Cubes (milk crates) on large balancing scales to make it tip to their advantage or teams could trade Power Cubes for temporary power ups in the match. At the end of the match, robots attempted to hang from a rung attached to the center of the tower.

2017: STEAMWORKS

The 2017 game was themed around the idea of steampunk. Robots were expected to shoot Fuel (wiffle balls) into a Boiler (smokestack) which then transported it to the Airship (middle stage). Points are also won by loading the Airship with Gears. Similar to other FRC games, at the end of the match robots could climb and hang onto ropes attached to the Airship.

2016: STRONGHOLD

The 2016 game was themed around the idea of storming the castle. As the match began, robots raced to breach the Outer Works (defenses) of their opponents and to capture their towers by firing Boulders (small foam balls) at it. Once the tower was captured, you could also choose to scale the wall.

2015: RECYCLE RUSH

The 2015 game was themed around the idea of recycling. Robots were tasked with picking and stacking Tots (storage containers) on different levels of scoring platforms, putting Litter (pool noodles) inside Barrels (recycling containers), and then placing the Barrels on scored Totes.

ROOKIE YEAR

2014:

AERIAL ASSIST

The 2014 game was themed around the idea of exercise. The three teams on an alliance passed an exercise ball back and forth to each other and attempt to shoot into the High Goal or the Low Goal to gain points.
